Journeying in Faith and Prayer
On the five Mondays evenings in November there will be a course
on prayer entitled Journeying in Faith and Prayer.
The course will give us an
opportunity to reflect on our own experience of prayer and to
try new ways of praying. We shall look at prayer in the Bible
and different traditions of prayer including, Benedictine, Franciscan,
the Mystics, the Desert Fathers, Celtic and Ignatian. We shall
look at how prayer relates to our Christian faith and personal
beliefs and also our own personality.
The course will include talks,
discussion in twos and threes and in the whole group and will
be the opportunity to experience several of the different types
of prayer. Each session will end with a different kind of worship.
They will start at 8pm with coffee available from 7.45pm.
The course will be led by Rev Gill Wiggins, a Non-Stipendiary
Priest from Ascot, and Hazel Berry. Rev Brian Spence will lead
part of one session and Brian Berry will lead a session on personality
and prayer.

BRIAN SPENCE - 40 YEARS A MINISTER
The Church was full on Sunday evening, 19th September, to hear
the Bishop of Reading lead the celebration of Brian's 40 years
in the Ministry. The Parish had been most generous in its contributions
towards gifts for Brian and the Churchwardens presented a music
centre, an engraved tankard, record and book tokens.
Brian has expressed his sincere
thanks for the wonderful evening to celebrate the 40th Anniversary
to the priesthood. It was a splendid evening and I was overwhelmed
by the many gifts. Again a very big thank you to everyone. Thanks
also to Gwen who made a splendid celebration cake (Gwen is also
making a Confirmation celebration cake!).
FAIRTRADE
Back in June we launched the first of our Fairtrade stalls, with
the modest hope of generating enough interest to run the stall
on a bi-monthly basis. Three months later, the stall has become
an established and regular event on the second and fourth Sundays
of the month, with sales averaging at £40 per Sunday, or
£80 per month.
The stall is held after the
8am and 10am services and is part of a diocesan initiative to
become a Fairtrade diocese. We have already introduced Fairtrade
tea and coffee after the 10am service and the Mothers Union are
using it at their meetings.
Fairtrade guarantees a fair
deal for producers who in turn can invest money back into their
communities. It means shopping with a conscience so that some
of the most marginalised farmers in the world can benefit from
international trade.
We would like to thank everyone
for their overwhelming support. |
