Confirmation
There was a most successful confirmation on 17th October. We
welcome 29 people as confirmed members of the parish.
Please remember them in your prayers.
The service was led by the new Bishop of Reading, Rt Rev Stephen
Cottrell, who gave a lively sermon about becoming whatever you
want to be whilst worshipping God, even a pop star or a football
player (including Arsenal players!). The entire congregation
were touched by the service. The Bishop was clearly impressed
that St John's is a lively parish that produced 29 candidates!
Our thanks to the Choir and Emily Grieve, Senior Chorister, who
gave an excellent solo of Litany to the Holy Spirit. Thanks also
to the lady who made an superb celebration cake (with all confirmees
names on it). PRAYING

CHRISTMAS FAYRE
The Christmas Fayre will be at 10am Saturday 11th December at
the Church of England School Hall. Put the date in your diary
now. Stephen Pope would appreciate offers of help at the Fair.
Donations for Tombola Prizes and items for the stalls (including
Red & Green) are welcome. The tool stall will be back!
Nativity 2004:
Tears of sorrow, tears of joy
It's once again time to dust off your tea towels and dressing
gowns, roll out the tin foil, relocate the glitter and start
thinking Nativity. Preparations are already under way for this
year's production, Tears of Sorrow, Tears of Joy, and we are
pleased to welcome back the musical talent of Jackie Pearce (mother
of Mike). In spite of having changed her telephone number and
her identity, Jackie has been persuaded back to the piano to
lead us once more with the miracle that is the music (all arranged
by Jackie and played totally by ear.)
The Nativity will be enacted by the Sunday School and Pathfinders,
but it is very much an all-age production and we would welcome
anyone who would like to join our singers (no experience necessary,
just enthusiasm and volume). Any musicians who would like to
jam along would also be most welcome. We are also hoping to feature
the authentic terracotta pitcher - no Nativity would be complete
without it.
Rehearsals begin after the 10am service on November 14th (Remembrance
Sunday), 21st and 28th. We will then join forces with Sunday
School for rehearsals during the 10am service on the Sundays
leading up to Christmas (November 28th, December 5th and December
12th). There will also be a dress rehearsal (tba) prior to the
performance on Christmas Eve. Please come and join us. |
