Rev Lisa Cornwell to be installed as Vicar 5th September

Plans are well under way for the Induction of our new vicar, Lisa Cornwell, on 5th September. The service will be at 7:30pm and will be conducted by the Bishop, Archdeacon and Area Dean, with involvement of many others. There is an extensive guest list and so, we are expecting a full Church.

Invitations are being prepared and we expect to distribute these to the congregation on 16th July. All will be welcome. We will be asking people to reply to the invitation to enable us to plan the seating. There will be some refreshment after the service - we may need to use the Parish Hall for this depending on the number of people.

Given the number of people attending, there will be limited opportunities for the congregation to meet Lisa at the Induction. Other opportunities are being planned. There will be a lunch for the PCC to meet Lisa on 10th September, following her first Sunday services. There will be an 8 meets 10 breakfast on 17th September and an open breakfast meeting for the village to meet Lisa in October. Look out for other events.

Lisa and Mike will move to Crowthorne on 26th July. They will spend a couple of weeks settling in to the vicarage, and then have a holiday in August. Lisa will not be undertaking any official duties prior to the induction.

Celebrate with Flowers

Do you have a special birthday, anniversary or event such as a Baptism that you would like to celebrate with Church Flowers?

Currently, we accept donations for the Remembrance Table arrangement in memory of a loved one. We would like to extend this idea to include Altar and Porch flowers and suggest we could include an announcement in the weekly newsheet if desired. The arrangements are normally in Church for two weeks and we would need as much notice as possible of your requirements.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those generous individuals who donate money for flowers at our special festivals such as Christmas, Easter and Harvest.

Please ask for more information.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Pam Knight, a dear friend to all and a former Branch Leader of the Mothers Union. Her funeral is to be held on Tuesday 4th July at 2pm in the Church. Everyone is welcome to come along to the service.

The Social Evening originally planned for that evening has been cancelled.

Our afternoon meeting is on Wednesday 12th July and will be a river trip from Caversham. Lunch may be taken on the boat.

The MU does not meet in August. Our evening meeting will fall on September 5th which will coincide with the licensing of our new vicar, Lisa Cornwell.
Meanwhile we hope you will all have an enjoyable summer break.

Welcome to Lisa and Mike

Lisa and Mike will move into the vicarage on 26th July. As part of our welcome to them, we would like to make sure that the vicarage is suitably prepared. The present tenants will move out by 12th July, and so we have just two weeks in which to get the place ready.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with the following:-
Cleaning, Decorating, Gardening and preparing a welcome pack (groceries etc)
If you are able to help, please contact the Churchwardens

Social reports

Wine Tasting 10th June: This was a very interesting and informative evening. A selection of wines were tasted together with carefully chosen samples of food and the evening concluded with cheese, pate and bread to soak up any remaining wine.

Comments since have been most complimentary and we once more record our thanks to the presenter for such an entertaining event.

Patronal Barbecue 25th June: In superb surroundings of St John's Lodge on a lovely warm afternoon about 80 members of the congregation tucked into burgers, bangers, tasty salads, followed by strawberries and ice-cream.

Children chased around doing a treasure hunt and some found boules a pleasant diversion.

Thanks go to Bob & Maggie, the BBQ trio, helpers with the gazebos, those who provided salads and the Social Committee for all the behind the scenes preparation.

Diocesan Synod: Gillian Gyenes has been elected as a Deanery Lay representative to the Oxford Diocesan Synod. Well done!
