Easter at St John's
Easter is a very special time.
Palm Sunday 10am Service will include the Musical Jerusalem
Joy. In the evening Pathfinders present the play The Last Supper.
On Maundy Thursday - the day when Jesus gave us our service
of Holy Communion - the evening Liturgy, at 8pm, commemorates
that last evening. Reenacting the washing of the disciples' feet;
sharing in the Eucharist and processing out to 'the Garden of
Gethsemane' to keep a Watch until Midnight.
On Good Friday at 10am
there is a Family Service (followed by Hot Cross buns in the
Hall). And at 2pm One Hour of Devotion before the Cross. At 7.30pm
CTC hold a United Service at the Methodist Church.
Easter Sunday will celebrate Christ's resurrection.
At 8 am the service includes the Blessing of the Paschal Candle,
Renewal of Baptismal Promises and the First Communion of Easter.
At 10.30 am there is a Family Communion Service and at 6.30 pm
Choral Evensong.
Please tell friends and neighbours about these services and assure
them of a warm welcome at our Church.
May Fayre
We are now approaching the
most important time for the May Fayre and in order to make the
event successful we need your help!
Pledge your Support: We are still looking for help to man
stalls - could you please try and help even if it is for a short
time - every little helps. We are also collecting names for the
setting up and cleaning up teams on the day.
Raffle: This is our most important fund-raiser.
Raffle tickets will be sent out in the near future and we hope
you'll need more! We'll also sell tickets outside Somerfield
on Saturdays 24th April and 1st May. Please offer your time and
support for this important lead in to the event.
Plant Stall: This stall is a major fund raiser.
Its success has been partly due to the support received from
parishioners who sow seeds, divide plants and take cuttings to
sell alongside the commercially grown bedding plants. We would
appreciate your contributions (or bring them on the morning).
One man's junk is another
man's treasure! We
also need your unwanted belongings. You can bring these into
church over the next weeks or bring them along on the day. The
items we are particularly looking for are: Books, Tombola prizes
(eg bottles, cans, household items), White Elephant, Toys. |

you have about this. Please consider taking this step at St John's.

PRAYING FOR STREETS
In April prayer requests from
the streets in the Parish will be:

If you can help deliver leaflets
or have a prayer request please contact us.
50 NOT OUT: Michael Campling,
Vicar of Crowthorne l961-l976
will be celebrating 50 years in the Ministry in June. During
this time a young prep school master, Michael Perham, came to
Michael C for spiritual guidance, and he too entered the Ministry.
Michael Perham is now Bishop of Gloucester, and he will be the
celebrant at the service of thanksgiving for Michael Campling
on Sunday 6 June l0.30am at St Andrews Church, Wickham
Avenue, Bexhill on Sea.
Anne and Michael Campling extend
a warm welcome to any friends from Crowthorne to join with them
on this occasion. As light refreshments will be served afterwards,
it would be helpful if you would kindly let me know if you plan
to go, so that I can advise Anne of numbers. Hope to see you
there.
ANNUAL SPRING CLEAN: The
Spring Clean was on Saturday April 3rd. Our thanks to all who
worked so hard to get the Church so sparkling for Easter.
Flower Festival:
There will be another flower
festival at St John's on 10-11th July (Carnival). Thank you everybody
who supported the cake stall on 21 March, £139 was
raised towards festival costs!
Quiz night:
A successful event was
held on 26th March, Roland Fruin kept all amused as Quiz master.
Thanks to the Social Committee for organising. |
THE
LAST SUPPER
If Mel Gibson's The Passion of The
Christ is not for you, why not give The Last Supper
a go. Its big advantage is that it's all in English (purist requests
for Aramaic and Latin transcripts will be dealt with accordingly),
and unlike the controversial box office hit, it has an all-star
cast of instantly recognisable faces - The Pathfinders. We guarantee
there will be no gore, though there will be blood spilled.
Join us as we recreate the tension, passion,
confusion and incredulity that surrounded the last meal Jesus
shared with his disciples in the upper room in Jerusalem. Was
Judas a pawn in a script already written? Were the disciples
aware of the traitor in their midst? Could Peter and John have
saved Jesus from the kiss that ultimately condemned him to crucifixion
on the cross? Come along and decide for yourself.
One performance only: here, Sunday
April 4 at 6.30pm. Suitable for all the family
