The recent dinner dance – the Moonlight Sonata Ball - which was held at Wellington College in February was a great success and a good time was definitely had by all.
The ambience of the room plus the elegance of the attendees made for a good start to the proceedings and we would like to say a big thank you to Serendipity Cards for supplying all the wonderful silver and gold moon and start shaped balloons that graced the tables and helped set the scene.
Pre-dinner drinks were served in the very beautiful Old School and then everyone went into the Old Dining Hall for the main part of the evening. Following a delicious three course meal everyone played Heads and Tails for a chance to win a couple of bottles of bubbly. After that we held an auction which raised over £1,000, tempting people with items such as the use of a Lexus for the weekend, a round of golf at Wentworth and a family portrait session with the Big Picture and we would like to thank both Brian Turner and Roland Fruin for encouraging people to dig deep into their pockets. A raffle ended the formal part of the evening and the rest of the night was spent boogying and generally making merry and the last dance ended the ball at 1.00. I’m sure there were a few sore heads (and feet) the next morning!
Due to everyone’s hard work (both on the organising front and the taking part on the night front) we managed to raise an amazing £2,384 for the Church’s Renovation Fund so I would like to say a big thank you to Liz Baker, Danzi Castle and Lorraine and Graeme Muirhead without whom this event would not have happened and thanks also go to all those who helped on the day with putting the room together.
So here’s to the next one!

Each year, for one week in June, an amazing event takes place on the Wintershall Estate near Guildford. The Life of Christ is an outdoor play set in acres of beautiful grounds with a cast of over 200 people and numerous sheep, horses, donkeys and even a camel! The action moves around the grounds and the audience follows it as the events of Christ’s life unfold before our eyes. The costumes are wonderfully colourful and the sound exceptional in quality; the audience can hear every word of Jesus’ teachings, His healings and His miracles. We experience the excitement of Palm Sunday, the despair of Good Friday and the joy of Easter Sunday.
Some of us are hoping to attend the performance this year on Saturday 29 June. If you haven’t been before please do give this serious consideration – you won’t regret it! All ages would very welcome although you should be aware that there is some walking over uneven ground. Although there are no plans to organise a coach from St Johns, it may be that we can arrange car sharing for anyone who would like to come.
The cost is £15.75 for adults, £7.50 for children. If you would like to come please see Tracy Perrett who will be happy to book tickets on your behalf (for every 10th child booked we are entitled to one free adult so we may be able to reduce the price slightly for everyone).
