  • Galatians 3:24-26
So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.

Annual Parochial Church Meeting

Last month’s SJN omitted a report on our annual meeting on 25th April.  Lazlo Gyenes agreed to continue as Churchward.  Ken Perrett will step down at the end of July and Lazlo will continue as sole warden.  It is hoped a second warden will be able to stand next year when his work commitments are less.  Ken was thanked for his efforts and indicated a willingness to continue to help out.

Gillian Gyenes gave a short talk on “Living Faith”.  Our Vision process has been linked in with the Diocesan initiative of “Living Faith”.  Everyone should have a card which has been distributed by the Diocese with the 5 colours on it.  This past year the Diocese has been concentrating on “Sustaining the Sacred Centre” which is coloured red.  Sustaining the Sacred Centre is the nucleus before moving out into the other fields.

During the coming year the main focus will be on “Creating vibrant Christian Communities”.  Our May Fair we will be taking the church into the community.  We should act naturally not artificially to win the trust and respect of the community.  Hope Zone is shared with the other churches in the village.  Collaborative Leadership” covers all sorts of ministry.  Under “Making Disciples  several new families have joined the congregation recently and we must ensure that we sustain the welcome they initially received.  Making a difference in the World” has seen the Bishops writing about the forthcoming General Election and globally we must continue to meet our mission funding commitments.

Lisa thanked Gillian for her summary and spoke briefly about the areas in which we have already acted to “Sustain the Sacred Centre

Mike Thackray gave an update on the roof project.

Becky Al-Jadir presented the accounts.  She she expects that there will be a deficit of around £4,000 this year.  The stewardship campaign has increased giving by an extra £330 per month, so planned giving should be back as it was last year.  Lisa commented that we need to take heed and increase our stewardship giving and hoped interest rates would come back up.

Tracy Perrett’s report on the Electoral Roll was reported.  The number of people on the electoral roll as at the APCM last year was 263.  Since then 15 new names have been added and 23 removed, mainly those who have moved away from the parish.  Accordingly the Church Electoral Roll figure now stands at 255.

Detailed reports on each of the Parish’s activities were then considered.

In the elections for PCC there were 7 vacancies.  Only 4 candidates had been nominated and they were declared elected (Jill Pope, Martin Whitsted, Louise Lobley, Daviod Chater-Lea).

Electoral Roll

The Electoral Roll is the Parish Church’s register of electors and is the list of those qualified to attend and to vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting.

Those on the roll are voting members of the Church of England and so help to ensure that all the synodical councils of the Church – the Parochial Church Council, our Deanery Synod, The Oxford Diocesan Synod and the General Synod – are fully representative of its members. The members of the Parochial Church Council and Parish Representatives to Synod are  required to be on the Electoral Roll.

Regular worshippers to this Church are asked to consider applying to enrol on the Church Electoral Roll.

There are other important obligations and rights associated with being on the Electoral Roll, especially if you live outside the Parish.

Rights associated with being on the Electoral Roll

(a) The right of marriage

As the established church, the Church of England gives all British citizens, with no former partner still living, the right to get married in the parish church where they are resident or in the church where either of the couple are on the church's electoral roll.

(b) The right of burial

Anyone who dies in the Parish, or while resident in it, is entitled to burial in the Churchyard. There is also a right of burial for anyone who died while on the electoral roll of a Parish having an open churchyard, regardless of where they reside or live.

(c) Consideration of applications for children to attend Ranelagh School

The current criteria for children to be considered for Ranelagh School includes the length of time that the parents have been on the Electoral Roll.

Obligations associated with being on the Electoral Roll

(a) Parish Share

The Parish Share is the contribution of our Church towards the total cost of the Anglican Church. The amount takes into account the size of the Electoral Roll. People on the Electoral Roll share the obligation to ensure that the Church can meet its obligation.

If you would like to know more about the Electoral Roll, to apply for enrolment, or would like to view the Electoral Roll, please consult Tracy Perrett, the Electoral Roll Officer, or one of the Church Wardens. You can find a copy of the Electoral Roll form on the "Documents for downloading" page of this website.
