Women in the episcopate: An update

The search for a way forward on the subject of Women Bishops continues.  The General Synod has published a document looking at options.  This takes as its objectives:

  • Produce a shorter, simpler measure than the one that was defeated;

  • Provide, through the totality of the elements in the package, a greater sense of security for the minority as having an accepted and valued place in the Church of England while not involving the majority in any new element of compromise on matters of principle.

  • A range of possibilities are being considered.  The discussion document can be found by putting the term ‘Church of England GS MISC 1042’ into the Google search engine.  Oxford Diocese had requested comments on this document but the comment date will have passed by the time you read this.

Safeguarding Course

 There will be a Safeguarding Course at 8.00pm on Wednesday 27th February in St Mary’s Church, Station Road, Wargrave, RG10 8EU

The  course will be delivered by Sarah Nesbitt from the Diocese and will fulfill the requirement for a 3-yearly update everyone holding a CRB (now DBS) clearance should undertake.

As it is being held in Wargrave Church there will be  plenty of space, but  Sheila Williams at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  requests that you let her know who will be attending.

This is a great opportunity and it is very important that as many people as possible take the opportunity to attend.

Access to Christ Church Cathedral

Some of you will be aware that Christ Church Cathedral gives free entry to the residents of Oxford Diocese who have applied for a pass. Current passes are due to expire at the end of this year but rather than issue new passes the Cathedral has decided to make the existing passes lifelong. If you do not already have a pass and would like one, you can find the application forms at the back of the hall, or click here to download the attachment.
