Pastoral Visiting - a reminder

As the body of Christ we are urged to care for one another and it is the role of the Pastoral Visiting Group to help facilitate that. In addition to the Vicar and Curate, the group is comprised of: David and Jean Butler, Gillian Gyenes, Christine Rees, Carol Cain, June Todd, June Lee, Tracy Perrett and Willoughby Jones.

If you are worried about another member of the congregation then come and tell us - we need your help as eyes and ears as we may not be aware of people's needs.  Contact David Butler (Group Co-ordinator): This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. St John's Pastoral Visiting Group

Following the example and teaching of Christ to “love our neighbour”, we believe that as a church, we are called to respond to the needs of our congregation and community through the ministry of pastoral care.

The “Pastoral Group” consists of volunteer members of the church, commissioned to carry out this task on behalf of the church.

This entails: - “looking out” for regulars at church so that no one is neglected.
- Responding to requests for home visits or suggesting a home visit where appropriate.
- Delivering pastoral and congratulations cards from the church.

Whilst, pastoral care does not happen purely within the context of visiting someone – any interaction between people can potentially be an opportunity for pastoral care and sensitive listening, - a visit is a more formal expression of pastoral care.

People requiring home visits roughly fall into three categories: the sick/ housebound, the bereaved, and newcomers to church. Whether people are visited as a “one-off” or on a regular basis will depend upon individual circumstances.

If you would like a visit or are aware of someone else’s need then please contact the Vicar.
