Praying around the Churchyard

Jesus said “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest”. (Mark 6:31)

View of church

As we move into the better weather it is a good time to take advantage of our lovely Churchyard; to spend time enjoying the surroundings of the Church and to give God the chance to speak to us.

With some expert advice from Brian and Audrey Hooper on what to find in the Churchyard I have prepared a leaflet.  There may be things that as you follow path indicated in the leaflet, that you have never noticed before. Enjoy exploring and as you go you may wish to repeat to yourself or say aloud ”‘O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” (Psalm 8:1)

Lewis Simmons has made a rack, which is fixed to the wall to the right of the main door into the Church and this is where the leaflets can be found.

The walk also gives an opportunity to appreciate how beautifully David Bainbridge and his team keep the Churchyard.

Please point the leaflets out to visitors to our Churchyard and make use of them yourself.

Prayers for healing

We pray for the sick every Friday evening in the Lady Chapel at 6.15. We include all the names from our prayer board and noticesheet as well as any others known to us for whom prayers have been asked. The service is a simple one taken by a different person each week and lasts about 30 minutes. Anyone is welcome to join us and we welcome requests for prayer.

If you would like to send prayer requests by email, details can be found on the "How to contact us" page.

Sonning Deanery Prayer Cycle

Our Area Dean, David Hodgson has asked that we re-establish the Prayer Cycle, which was in operation within the Deanery some years ago.  It is hoped that in praying regularly for the special needs of our Parishes we shall be drawn into closer fellowship across the Deanery.

The Prayer Cycle will have two sections; firstly we shall pray each month for our Deanery Synod or for the Clergy and people in a particular Parish or sometimes Parishes. That is, in November we shall be praying particularly for our Deanery Synod, in December for Arborfield with Barkham and the White House School and so on month by month for the different Parishes in the Deanery.

Secondly we shall include particular prayer requests from ANY Parish in the Deanery; these requests could be for new initiatives of mission or evangelism, courses taking place, particular groups etc.

I shall be in regular contact with Clergy and LLMs, Church Wardens, Parish Administrators and any person in each parish identified as having a particular prayer ministry within the parish.  I should be pleased to hear of anyone in your Parish that I might include on this list?

The Prayer Cycle will be circulated to Parishes on the first day of each month and will also be on the Deanery Website (www.webjam.com/sonningdeanery).
