Daily Prayer

  • Galatians 3:24-26
So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.
Sunday Services
Pattern of morning services

The 8am service is a Eucharist service using traditional language. On the third Sunday of each month, we use the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) version. An Order of Service is provided to assist newcomers in following the service. This service is intended for those who prefer a quiet, peaceful and prayerful atmosphere in which to worship.

The 10am service is the main service of the day. It is a Eucharist service, with hymns led normally by the organ and choir. The service is in contempory language following Common Worship. There are Creche (for 0-3 years), Sunday School (for 3-11 years) and Pathfinders (for 12 and over) which meet during the first part of the service. All the children come into Church for the Eucharist. Following the service, refreshments are served in the hall and there is an opportunity for fellowship. This service is intended for people of all ages.

On the 2nd Sunday of each month, the 10am service includes the sacrament of Baptism. We  are pleased to welcome families and friends of those being baptised.

If you are thinking of coming, please have a look at "Next week at St John's" to check what is actually happening next Sunday, as we do have quite a few special services.

Pattern of evening services

It is our practice to offer a variety of evening services. The normal pattern of evening services for each month is:-
Week 1: Healing Service
Week 2: Choral Evensong
Week 3: Alternative worship or Taizé
Week 4: Evening prayer
Week 5: Youth Service (when there are 5 Sundays in the month)

The pattern is varied to take account of the season and shared services with other churches.

Note that there will be a trial of having this service at 6.pm rather than 6.30pm, starting on 3rd January.

Assisting with the Sunday Services
I am sure those who read this are already committed contributors to St John’s in one way or another and I realise our Time and Talents is another appeal to help but this may be the opportunity that suits.

Every week at a Eucharist we worship and participate but maybe, as we are in church anyway for this purpose, we may wish add to this worship by serving and thereby assisting the Celebrant to conduct our services.  It is also the opportunity learn about and participate more closely.

Without doubt at the moment there is only a small band of servers so, adult or youngster, male or female, you would be very welcome if you feel you could help in this way.  You can serve as often or as little as wish, maybe once a month, maybe just in school holiday time or for weekday celebrations or for an occasional 8 am service.
Please feel free to contact myself or Gillian or Lisa.
